Toni Helen Durham
Elected

My name is Toni Durham and I am standing for the Longbeach School Board. My husband Jonathan and I have two sons attending Longbeach School, Fergus and Keegan, who are in the junior school. We are extremely lucky to have such a great local school with a strong culture, staff and community. The range of academic, sporting, cultural and life skills opportunities for our students is great and I believe a quality education now sets our kids up for life. I have a Bachelor of Recreation Management and Masters of Applied Science (majoring in Social Sciences). I work as the Manager of Strategy & Policy for Ashburton District Council and believe that this background and skill-set allows me to fulfill the governance role of a trustee member. I was co-opted to the BOT in 2018 and have enjoyed the experience and learning what goes into governing our school Previously I have held committee roles in various sports and community organisations and I enjoy working with people to get positive things done. If I were elected to the Board of Trustees I believe I can assist to ensure the good governance of the school, navigate any challenges and ensure a strong partnership is in place between staff, parents and the wider school community.

As a proud father of two amazing girls with a love of life and a thirst for learning, I'm excited to offer my skills and experiences to the school board to guide our amazing school.

Currently employed as the Ashburton District Council's Recreation Services Manager I hold responsibility for approximately 100 employees and various groups and committees. With 4.5 years experience and current chair of the ADC health and safety committee I offer excellent experience in this area. I hold various relevant experiences including regular reporting to key management and governance committees and presentation of business cases and complex budgets. Instilling a team culture across an organisation is paramount to its success and this is no different within the school environment

My day to day role includes responsibility for operational and capital budgets and financial analysis as well and key responsibilities in customer services and event operations. I hold particular skills in process improvement and using technology as an advantage.

With my free time I enjoy activities and adventures with Sammy, Kate and wife Jess as well as looking after our lifestyle property at Lake Hood. We enjoy getting out on the lake and enjoying various recreation activities together.

I believe I hold excellent skills and knowledge to assist and guide the governance of our school to continue to be the amazing school it is and produce amazing future leaders who are ready to take on the next challenges in their lives.
